The Jakarta government has officially rolled out 32 disability-friendly school buses for 2026, marking a significant step in transforming the capital into a truly inclusive city.
To provide the necessary tools and access to ensure all students
Governor Pramono Anung emphasized that education is a fundamental right for every child.
"The government is duty-bound to provide the necessary tools and access to ensure all students—including those with disabilities—can pursue their ambitions with ease," he expressed, at City Hall, Wednesday (1/21).
He tipped his hat to the Transportation Agency, teachers, and schools for their seamless cooperation in launching these facilities. He noted that this initiative cements Jakarta’s status as a disability-friendly hub, building on the success of previous programs like the specialized job fair.
"I hope this fleet provides smooth sailing for our children’s daily commute and all their school-related activities," he added.
The Jakarta government has beefed up its school bus fleet with 32 new accessible units, comprising 13 micro-buses and 19 medium-sized buses. This expansion includes five new routes to complement the existing network.
In total, the service now spans 10 routes, transporting roughly 41,000 students daily from elementary through high school.
"The future is bright for our children because Jakarta’s facilities are a cut above the rest," he remarked.
These service upgrades are by the book, following Governor Regulation No. 57/2022, said Jakarta Dishub Head Syafrin Liputo.
Since hitting the road in 2007, the school bus unit has managed a 230-strong fleet serving 50 routes citywide. With 32 regular and 18 zonal lines, the buses run from dawn till dusk (4:30 AM to 7 PM) to ensure students get to class on time.
"Our fleet serves an average of 41,000 students daily across all school levels," he noted.
To beef up this service, Jakarta is adding 32 accessible buses to support five new routes specifically designed to reach five additional special education schools (SLB).
These routes—including YPAC–Ciledug, Rawa Bebek Flat–Rorotan, and BNN Cawang–Cipinang—were successfully tested and are set to be fully operational by 2026.
"These five additional lines will ensure our transport network is more inclusive than ever," he added
Each bus comes with disability-friendly facilities like lift chairs and wheelchairs. On-board staff will assist with their operation to ensure every student travels safe and sound.
