Central Jakarta Mayor Arifin officially inaugurated a new communal sanitation hub (MCK) in Pegangsaan, Menteng, Wednesday (1/21).

The facility was built through a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program by the Indonesian Doctor’s Wives Association (IIDI) Jakarta.

"I’d like to thank IIDI Jakarta for this initiative; the community is already reaping the rewards," he stated.

He emphasized that proper sanitation facilities are a cornerstone of a healthy lifestyle and a vital step toward better living standards.

Arifin revealed that 37 out of 44 urban village in Central Jakarta have yet to reach Open Defecation Free (ODF) status.

"We are committed to tackling these environmental hurdles step by step," he asserted.

RW 01 Head, Ibrahim Idris praised the city government and IIDI Jakarta for listening to the community's needs.

"Thankfully, our residents have finally moved on from using riverside latrines," he added.

Local Resident Rendy noted that the new facility is a major boost for their quality of life.

"We promise to keep it shipshape. Thank you to all parties for looking out for us," he added, highlighting the community's readiness to maintain the project.
