The Seribu Islands Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency is currently dredging wastewater treatment plant (IPAL) channels in zones 2 and 3 on Pramuka Island.

This essential maintenance is being done in neighborhood 03/05 to ensure the island’s sanitation system remains in tip-top shape.

Clean Water and Wastewater Sectin Head, Rezky Arie Pranata said, the dredging project aims to nip clogs and siltation in the bud, preventing floods that could jeopardize the health and comfort of residents.

"Heavy rainfall often leaves these channels prone to blockages," he stated, Wednesday (1/21).

Since the start of January, personnel have been moving from one neighborhood to the next to stay on top of the maintenance.

"We remove up to 12 sacks of mud every day. Leaving it untouched would throw a wrench into the plant's operations and disrupt the flow," he added.

He calls on residents to step up to the plate by keeping their surroundings clean, specifically by not tossing trash into channel or wastewater systems.

"Flood prevention isn't a one-man show. The community's role is a two-way street, starting with the simple habit of not littering to ensure our infrastructure stays clear," he explained.

The action received appreciation from RW 05 Chairman, Panggang Island Urban Village, Sairan.

"It’s a real lifesaver with the monsoon season here. It keeps the channels running smoothly and improves our quality of life," he remarked.

He looks forward to seeing these efforts continue for the long haul, while urging residents to step up to the plate in keeping the environment trash-free.

"When our channels are kept in tip-top shape and residents pitch in to keep them clean, we can effectively keep flood risks at bay and raise the bar for everyone's quality of life," he concluded.
