The North Jakarta Parks and City Forest Sub-agency is doubling down on its greening initiatives this year to create a lusher, cooler, and more inviting environment.

Transforming North Jakarta into a greener, cooler, and healthier urban sanctuary

This move builds on the momentum of the "Friday Planting" 2025 program, which successfully saw 460 trees of various species planted across the district.

North Jakarta Parks and City Forest Sub-agency Head, Reina Camelia said, greening efforts are moving full steam ahead, with an even higher standard of execution.

She emphasized that tree planting is a vital investment for the long haul, ensuring the city’s sustainability.

"This year, we are honing in on consistency to guarantee that every tree thrives and pays dividends for the community," she expressed, Wednesday (1/21).

The program spans all six districts across North Jakarta. While there is no fixed annual quota, consistency is the name of the game.

"Our weekly agenda involves planting an average of 10 to 15 trees at specifically mapped-out sites," she explained.

She is calling on residents to step up to the plate and help nurture the newly planted trees. Collaboration between the city and its residents is the cornerstone of a successful greening program.

"We hope the community will take ownership of these trees so that everyone can reap the rewards of a greener city together," she added.

Green Belt and Cemetary Section Head, Habib Prabandoko emphasized that tree selection is far from random.

"We look for trees that do double-duty—offering both ecological benefits and visual appeal," he explained.

While Tabebuias are chosen to spruce up the district, Pule and Trembesi trees serve as natural air filters to combat pollution. He also highlighted the "balling" technique for transplanting mature trees, ensuring they take root more effectively in their new homes.

He provided a quarterly breakdown of the 2025 planting drive: the first quarter was the most productive with 155 trees, followed by 73 in Q2, 112 in Q3, and 120 in Q4.

"By keeping the momentum alive, we are optimistic about transforming North Jakarta into a greener, cooler, and healthier urban sanctuary for everyone," he concluded.
