The Seribu Islands Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency is paving the way for better coastal defense by building a new embankment near the iconic Cinta Bridge (Love Bridge).

Using heavy-duty massive cubes, the local SDA Sub-agency Head Mustajab aims to keep erosion at bay and ensure that local homes and public facilities remain safe and sound.

"The 84-meter-long sea wall is currently halfway to the finish line, with 45% of the work completed as of Monday (1/19)," he expressed.

Despite personnel have been racing against the clock since January 12 to meet a 20-day deadline, they are now facing rough waters due to high waves and strong west winds.

"The weather is throwing us a curveball, but we are pulling out all the stops to finish on time while keeping our workers' safety front and center," he explained.

Local Beach Section Head, Wahyu Maulana emphasized that the project is a direct response to grassroots demands, proving that the agency is listening to the ground. Beyond the sea wall, the agency is also breathing new life into the shoreline through beach restoration

"We are currently deploying geobags on the north side of Cinta Bridge to nip erosion in the bud while keeping the ecosystem in sync," he explained.

This dual-action approach is expected to shore up the island's vital infrastructure and ensure that Tidung Island's tourism sector remains on solid ground for years to come.

"I urge residents to do their bit in maintaining these coastal defenses so that the rewards continue to pay off for the long haul," he added

This work receive appreciation from one of the residents from RW 02, Tidung Island Urban Village, Juriyah (52).

He assessed, the sea wall is seen as a vital lifeline to protect the shoreline from the elements, particularly the seasonal west winds.

"We can finally breathe easier now. Hopefully, this wall will stand the test of time. We look forward to seeing the same protection rolled out in other vulnerable zones to keep our environment secure and our livelihoods on track," he stated.
