Personnel from the South Jakarta Parks and City Forests Sub-agency are sprucing up the green corridors along Jalan Harsono RM, Ragunan Urban Village, Pasar Minggu Sub-district.

Replacing them to give the landscape a fresh lease on life

This rejuvenation effort aims to keep the city’s green spaces in tip-top shape, ensuring they remain easy on the eye for commuters and local residents alike.

Field Coordinator Nanang Kosim stated that the plant refresh is a key part of maintaining the city’s main arteries.

"We are trading in the older costus plants for fresh golden cannas to ensure vibrant growth. At the same time, our bougainvilleas are receiving some extra TLC to keep them in peak condition," he expressed, Wednesday (1/14).

He explained that the costus plants were past their prime, having reached an average age of five years. At this stage, the greenery had seen better days and was no longer thriving.

"When plants get too old, they run out of steam and lose their vibrant look. We’re replacing them to give the landscape a fresh lease on life," he clarified.

The rejuvenation spans a three-kilometer stretch of the 1.2-meter-wide green belt. A dedicated four-man crew has been on the job since January 5 and is on track to wrap things up by the end of the month.

"We are working efficiently to meet our deadline," he added.

Local resident Galih Adiyatma (41) gave a thumbs up to the city’s green initiative, noting that the old plants had seen better days.

"I walk to the office every day, and this face-lift is a breath of fresh air. The new greenery makes my daily commute much more pleasant and easy on the eye," he stated.
