Cleanup of the waste pile at Kramat Jati Main Market, East Jakarta, which began on January 8, 2025, was completed on Monday (1/12), with a total of 3,012 tons of waste cleared.

Kramat Jati Sub-district Environment Unit Head, Dwi Firmansyah, said the efforts were accelerated over the past five days. However, weather conditions posed a challenge, with frequent heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning.

"By yesterday afternoon, the old waste pile at Kramat Jati Main Market was fully cleared . The current waste is new, originating from the vendors' activities," he remarked on Tuesday (1/13).

He mentioned that on the fifth day of cleanup, 46 trucks were deployed, each making two trips for transporting the waste.

"Between the first and fourth day, 132 trucks were deployed, bringing the total number of waste transport trucks to 178," he noted.

According to Dwi, priority was given to removing the old waste over the new waste because the old waste contains high levels of ammonia, has a strong odor, and could pose health risks.

"The old waste had turned black and decomposed, while the new waste has not yet undergone that process," he shared.

To prevent waste buildup, 10 to 11 trucks would be deployed daily.

"The daily waste volume at Kramat Jati Main Market reaches around 180 to 200 tons, mostly organic waste," he stated.

Meanwhile, Kramat Jati Main Market Manager, Agus Lamun, expressed gratitude and appreciation to the East Jakarta Environment Sub-agency for their swift response in handling the waste issue.

"We will continue to coordinate to ensure waste management runs more optimally. The impact of the waste pile is strongly felt by vendors, visitors, and the surrounding residents," he concluded.
