The Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) is telling residents to batten down the hatches after issuing an early warning for extreme weather through January 13.

Preparation is the best defense

Citing the latest data from the weather agency (BMKG), officials warn that torrential downpours are on the horizon, with moderate to heavy rain expected to soak several parts of the capital

Jakarta BPBD Acting Head, Isnawa Adji urges Jakartans to stay on their toes and prepare for the fallout of extreme weather, specifically potential flash floods and pooling

"Preparation is the best defense. Whether it's keeping an umbrella within reach or having a disaster kit ready to go, better safe than sorry," he expressed, Monday (1/12).

To stay in the loop, the BPBD is reminding the public to keep a watchful eye on their surroundings. Real-time water levels are available at bpbd.jakarta.go.id, while any flooding can be reported at the touch of a button via JAKI app. For the latest on the city's flood map, residents can also check banjir.jakarta.go.id to stay up to speed

"It’s all hands on deck as we coordinate across agencies to make sure our personnel and gear are up to snuff," he added.

In the event of a crisis, the public is urged to use the 112 emergency line—a vital lifeline for those needing round-the-clock assistance.
