Jakarta’s alms board, Baznas Bazis, has successfully delivered over Rp 2.72 billion in disaster relief to Sumatra. The aid package, aimed at supporting survivors of recent natural disasters, was funneled through three stages of distribution

Collaboration remains our core principle

The distribution includes Rp 69.2 million in the first phase, followed by Rp 827.4 million in the second. Additionally, the agency delivered Rp 756.1 million worth of in-kind donations—such as food and essential supplies—and concluded the mission with a third phase disbursement of over Rp 1.07 billion

Jakarta’s alms board is adopting a collaborative model to maximize its disaster relief impact.

Baznas Bazis Chairman, Akhmad H. Abu Bakar stated that the agency is ramping up engagement with philanthropists and the business community to ensure a steady stream of aid for those in need.

By prioritizing long-term sustainability, the agency plans to deliver assistance in stages as new funding arrives. Members of the public and corporate entities have until January 8, 2026, to contribute to the ongoing relief drive.

"Collaboration remains our core principle. Our innovations are centered on partnerships, though we are expanding the specific avenues of cooperation. While we have seen some support from the business community, it is currently limited. We're intensifying our outreach to encourage more corporations to join our disaster relief efforts," he explained, Thursday (1/8).

He noted that because natural disasters are inherently unpredictable, these relief funds are not pre-allocated in the agency’s Annual Work Plan and Budget (RKAT). Consequently, Baznas Bazis is focused on mobilizing direct donations from citizens eager to support those affected by these unforeseen events.

Donations to Baznas Bazis arrive as both monetary gifts and in-kind aid, such as essential supplies.

"To ensure maximum impact, field evaluation teams are sent to disaster sites to determine exactly what goods are needed most," he explained.

A recent partnership with the Jakarta government also bore fruit, with a January 1 charity event at Monas bringing in Rp 3.3 billion. Officials clarified that the proceeds are managed in separate accounts to align with the distinct roles of the agencies involved.

Officials confirmed that relief funds are being managed in separate accounts to align with the distinct roles of the agencies involved. Baznas Bazis is also inviting the public and corporate donors to provide targeted aid, including power generators.

“We accept all forms of support,” he said, adding that the agency relies on on-the-ground data to guide distribution. "We'll deploy generators where they are needed most. Electricity is still a critical necessity, particularly for off-the-grid villages that have yet to see their services fully restored," he closed.
