Jakarta has launched an eight-month traffic management plan running through August 31, 2026, to support MRT Phase 2A underground construction.
Safety is our top priority
The CP 202 work package involves building three new subterranean stations—Harmoni, Sawah Besar, and Mangga Besar—along with tunneling work connecting the three sites. Drivers are urged to plan for delays in these high-traffic areas.
MRT Jakarta and contractor Shimizu-Adhi Karya Joint Venture (SAJV) have rolled out the traffic re-engineering plan in partnership with city transportation officials and regional traffic police.
"These traffic adjustments are required to facilitate the ongoing construction at the Harmoni, Sawah Besar, and Mangga Besar station sites,” stated PT MRT Jakarta Head, Rendy Primartantyo.
He confirmed the measures are tied to the Phase 2A CP 202 contract package for the city’s transit expansion.
Here is the breakdown of the traffic impacts by area:
Harmoni Station (January 1 – April 30)
Excavation and entrance construction will cause minor lane shifts on Jalan Hayam Wuruk between the BPKP and Sandjaja buildings. Despite the shift, three lanes heading toward Monas will remain open to traffic
Sawah Besar Station (Staged Phases)
January 1 – February 28: Kota-bound traffic on Jalan Hayam Wuruk will be rerouted to the canal side between Alfamart and Clover Bakery before merging back to the center lanes
March 1 – March 17:
Monas-bound: Jalan Hayam Wuruk traffic shifts to the center near Clover Bakery, returning to the building side before Jalan Sukarjo Wiryopranoto
Kota-bound: Jalan Gajah Mada traffic shifts to the canal side from the CIMB Niaga building to Gajah Mada Plaza
July 1 – August 31: Most traffic patterns on Jalan Hayam Wuruk (both directions) and Jalan Gajah Mada will revert to the center lanes near CIMB Niaga
Mangga Besar Station (Staged Phases)
January 1 – April 30: Monas-bound traffic on Jalan Hayam Wuruk will be restricted to one lane on the canal side, returning to the building side after the BRI Building
May 1 – August 31: The single lane toward Monas will continue to run along the canal side, shifting back to the building side after the Olimo shops
By so, MRT Jakarta has issued an apology for the unavoidable inconvenience and is asking for public cooperation to keep the project on schedule.
“Safety is our top priority,” he asserted.
He confirmed that the work zones will be outfitted with clear traffic signage, road markings, and enhanced street lighting to protect both workers and motorists.
"We urge all drivers and public transit users to pay close attention to the new signage and follow the directions of officers on the ground," he stated.
