Jakarta City Council Vice Chairman, Wibi Andrino supports the Governor Pramono’s plan to remove 20-year-old abandoned monorail pillars on Jalan HR Rasuna Said, calling the demolition a long-overdue step toward restoring the city's cityscape.

It's the right move—these pillars have been derelict for two decades

"It's the right move—these pillars have been derelict for two decades," Wibi remarked Wednesday (1/7).

Still, he stressed that the city must execute the demolition with strict safety protocols to avoid creating new hazards or snarling traffic on one of Jakarta's main thoroughfares.

He urged officials to coordinate the removal carefully to avoid hindering people.

"Safety is the top priority—for workers and the public alike," he explained.

He suggested an overnight schedule to bypass Jakarta’s notorious traffic. This process should not take place during rush hour to prevent further congestion.

Notably, Governor Pramono Anung says the demolition of Jakarta’s abandoned monorail pylons will start in the third week of January 2026, after the developer failed to meet a final deadline. While heavy machinery will be deployed, officials pledged there will be no road closures or disruptions to the daily commute.
