The number of fires in North Jakarta and the Seribu Islands has decreased throughout 2025. According to data, there were 232 fire incidents this year, a 17 percent decrease compared to 279 incidents in 2024.

Head Section of Operation for North Jakarta and Seribu Islands Fire Handling and Rescue Sub-agency, Gatot Sulaeman, said electrical short circuits are still the main cause of fires, accounting for 54 percent.

He added that other causes include gas leaks at around 12 percent, burning of rubbish at eight percent, and others.

"This decrease in fire cases is the result of intensified fire prevention campaigns," he said.

He explained that Penjaringan District had the highest number of fires, with 60, followed by Cilincing with 47. Tanjung Priok recorded 37 fires, Koja and Kelapa Gading each with 27, and Pademangan with 23.

"There were seven cases in Seribu Utara and four cases in the Seribu Selatan Islands," he explained.

In terms of affected objects, he added, residential homes suffered the most damage, at 86 units. Then, there were 41 kiosks or shophouses, 39 trash fires, and a number of other objects.

Hundreds of fires affected 1,048 families, or approximately 4,709 people. Fourteen people died and 88 were injured.

"Total material losses due to fires throughout 2025 are estimated to reach more than Rp 63.9 billion," he added.

His party will continue to strive to reduce the number of fires through various steps, starting from prevention socialization, fire handling simulations, to collaboration with various community elements.

"We continue to remind the public to be more vigilant, especially in the use of electrical installations and other fire sources, in order to reduce the potential for fires in the future," he stated.
