Jakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno has cautioned residents to stay on high alert following reports of a 'superflu' outbreak abroad, though the virus has yet to be detected locally.

"We haven't received word of the superflu reaching Indonesia yet, but vigilance is essential," he stated, during a visit to the West Jakarta Mayor's office, Monday (1/5).

He highlighted that the virus is currently spreading across the U.S. and other nations. He specifically warned those traveling internationally to remain cautious, stressing the importance of preventing the strain from being transmitted back to the capital.

He further urged airport officials to tighten screenings to thwart the virus before it reaches the wider community.

Beyond the superflu threat, Rano highlighted the critical need for TB intervention, pointing out that Jakarta remains one of the eight provinces with the highest infection rates in the country.

"TB eradication is a direct directive from the President. It is something we must work on together," he stated, calling for a unified public health response.
