To bolster the "Community Fire Extinguisher Awareness" program (GEMPAR), the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-agency (Gulkarmat) has distributed 2,033 portable fire extinguishers between 2022 and 2025.

East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-agency Head, Muchtar Zakaria stated that the 3.5-kilogram (7.7-pound) units are distributed to RTs that have completed fire prevention and suppression training.

Because we have provided training and formed Building Fire Safety Management (MKKG) and Fire Volunteers (Redkar), our target is for every neighborhood unit to have two trained volunteers equipped with extinguishers," he said, Sunday (1/4).

East Jakarta Prevention Section Head, Edi Parwoko added that the combination of training and equipment is designed to empower residents to tackle small fires before they escalate.

"We're prioritizing distribution in fire-prone areas. The criteria include densely populated residential zones, areas with limited water access, and neighborhoods with narrow alleys that fire trucks cannot enter," he stated.
