The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has issued a warning regarding potential coastal flooding which is expected to occur until January 7, 2026.

This warning was issued after the BMKG Class I Maritime Meteorology Station Tanjung Priok reported a maximum sea tide phenomenon that coincided with the Full Moon and Perigee (Supermoon) phases.

Head of Jakarta BPBD, Isnawa Adji said the combination of these two phenomena can trigger a significant increase in sea levels in the coastal areas north of Jakarta.

Isnawa added the maximum high tide is expected to occur between 6 AM and 12 PM, with a number of areas potentially affected.

The areas are Kamal Muara, Kapuk Muara, Penjaringan, Pluit, Ancol, Kamal, Marunda, Cilincing, Kalibaru, Muara Angke, Tanjung Priok, and up to Seribu Islands.

"Coastal communities need to increase their preparedness considering that high tides can last for several days in a row," he said, Friday (1/2).

The Jakarta BPBD Agency has urged residents to be aware of rapidly changing weather conditions and seawater dynamics. They are also reminded to avoid activities in coastal areas at risk of tidal flooding, especially during peak tides.

"Also ensure that the drainage system around the house continues to function properly to avoid inundation," he suggested.

The agency also asked the public to monitor official information through government digital channels such as the Tidal Wave Early Warning at bpbd.jakarta.go.id/gelombanglaut, the JAKI application to report flooding, and the pantaubanjir.jakarta.go.id website to get real-time updates on conditions.

"The government has also prepared a free 112 emergency service to respond to emergency situations and reports from the public," he stated.
