Jakarta Legislative Council Commission B Head, Dwi Rio Sambodo expressed optimism that the Lenteng Agung Fauna and Culinary Center has the potential to develop into a new icon for the capital.

Making this venue attractive

He argued that the center's growth hinges on its ability to evolve beyond a traditional pet market. He called for a collaborative business model where different sectors support one another to create a vibrant public space.

“Management must be innovative and capable of making this venue attractive, both as a fauna hub and through collaborations with other enterprises,” he expressed, Friday (1/2).

Along with creative management, he is pushing for a clear split in responsibilities between vendors and the Jakarta MSME Agency. He stressed that all decisions should be made through community consultation to stay in sync with field dynamics.

He also pointed to "local connectivity" as a key driver for success, noting the strategic role the neighborhood plays in supporting the center’s marketing and operations.

"Connecting with the Greater Jakarta community is essential. These types of markets serve a very specific, community-based clientele that management must understand," he explained.

To boost visitor numbers, he is encouraging the Lenteng Agung Fauna Center to host a mix of live shows and community-favorite contests. He specifically highlighted bird competitions as a way to engage local enthusiasts.

"If you host an event, the community will flock to it. We’ve seen cases where these events are at capacity weeks before they even start," he continued.

Then this feedback was gathered during recent site visits and consultations with traders, MSMEs, mayor, and sub-district heads. He has also formally raised these points during Commission B working sessions at the City Council.

He expressed confidence in the center's growth potential, arguing that every corner of Jakarta possesses inherent commercial viability.

"I've seen it myself; it's very promising, this could be a new Jakarta icon. Now, the management and the Jakarta government just need to provide the right spark to make it happen," he stated.
