Residents flocked to the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout to celebrate the New Year's Eve, Wednesday (12/31). The crowds of people heading to the main stages appeared to be getting denser since 7 PM.

interesting and exciting

Different from previous years which were synonymous with the booming of firecrackers, this year's celebration felt simpler but still lively.

The Jakarta Provincial Government has decided to cancel the fireworks display as a gesture of empathy for the people of Sumatra affected by the disaster. However, entertainment performances will still be held to liven up the atmosphere.

One of the residents who watched the entertainment on the main stage admitted that she was still enthusiastic about enjoying New Year's Eve.

"It was fun even though there were no fireworks, but it was still very interesting and exciting," said Fifi, resident of East Jakarta.

Tonight's event will include a joint prayer session led by interfaith figures to ask for safety for the nation in the new year.

The committee will also provide a number of donation points using QRIS to raise funds for victims of natural disasters in Sumatra.

"This New Year is extraordinary. No fireworks, no worries. What mattered is the togetherness and the opportunity to help our friends in Sumatra," stated Andi (28), another visitor.
