The Jakarta administration will prioritize a spirit of national solidarity and empathy for communities devastated by disasters in Sumatra during its New Year’s Eve 2026 celebrations.

The main hub remains the Bundaran HI

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated Wednesday that this year’s New Year’s Eve festivities will serve as a platform for solidarity with those in mourning following recent natural disasters.

Under the theme "Jakarta Global City: From Jakarta with Love," the event is intended to reflect Jakarta’s role as a global metropolis that maintains a deep sense of social responsibility toward fellow residents.

Jakarta is ushering in 2026 with a series of understated celebrations across the city center. Governor Pramono Anung confirmed Wednesday that while eight stages have been set up to facilitate public gatherings, the city has officially canceled its pyrotechnic shows in favor of a more modest atmosphere.

The festivities will be centered at the Bundaran Hotel Indonesia (HI), with additional stages at Lapangan Banteng, Sarinah, BNI Dukuh Atas, Semanggi, Indonesia Stock Exchange, and FX Sudirman.

“The main hub remains the Bundaran HI,” Pramono remarked, noting that the plan was coordinated with the city's joint leadership forum (Forkopimda).

Jakarta officials are pivoting to a more understated countdown this year, preparing 20 strategic sites for the 2026 transition while forgoing traditional pyrotechnics. Major downtown stages will be set up at landmarks like Lapangan Banteng, Sarinah, BNI Dukuh Atas, Semanggi, Bursa Efek Indonesia, FX Sudirman, and Bundaran HI.

The festivities extend beyond the city center, with 12 municipal-level venues activated citywide. Local favorites, such as Ancol, Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), and cultural hub of Setu Babakan are among the designated areas for residents to ring in the new year.

Jakarta has finalized 20 locations for tonight's New Year’s Eve celebrations. Officials confirmed the events will be modest and fireworks-free.

Primary Hubs: Bundaran HI, Lapangan Banteng, Sarinah, BNI Dukuh Atas, Semanggi, Indonesia Stock Exchange, and FX Sudirman.

Municipal Locations: Ancol, Old Town, Taman Mini (TMII), JIS, M Bloc Space, Setu Babakan, and Untung Jawa Island.

The decentralized approach aims to provide accessible celebration spaces for residents in every administrative city of the capital.

Tonight’s transition into 2026 in the capital will be about more than just festivities. Through a collaboration with BAZNAS and BAZIS, city officials have integrated a digital donation platform into the New Year’s Eve program. Revelers can simply scan QRIS codes posted at every venue to send aid to disaster survivors in Sumatra and other regions.

Fostering a sense of collective action, large Jumbotrons will track the donations live. As the clock hits midnight, the city will unveil the total amount gathered from the night’s generosity.

“We will show a real-time tally,” he explained, noting that by the time the countdown concludes, the city will have a clear picture of the community’s contribution toward helping fellow residents recover.

With the authorization of Home Ministry and Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD), the Jakarta government has provided Rp 3 billion in aid to each of the three regions most affected by recent disasters: Lhokseumawe, Central Tapanuli, and Aceh Tamiang.

The relief efforts have evolved from providing essential logistics—such as portable toilets and food staples—to direct economic intervention. The Jakarta government confirmed it will serve as an off-taker for agricultural yields from the disaster-stricken areas to help stabilize local farmers' incomes.

"We are already utilizing Pasar Jaya to absorb local harvests, including 1.4 tons of chilies that are already in our market system,” he stated, underscoring the city's commitment to long-term recovery.
