South Jakarta Mayor Muhammad Anwar accepted flood mitigation assistance for the Mampang Prapatan Sub-district from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Monday (12/29).
I urge all ranks to be better prepared and stay alert
Anwar lauded the contribution as a testament to communal concern for the region, specifically in anticipating inundation within residential areas.
"This is one of many contributions provided by the church. Our target is for all districts to receive similar assistance to maximize flood prevention efforts through deep infiltration wells," he stated, at the Mampang Prapatan Sub-district Office.
Beyond the technical aid, Anwar commended the South Jakarta Social Sub-agency for its wheelchair distribution program for people with disabilities.
He expressed his aspiration for continued support to reach vulnerable groups to facilitate seamless daily mobility.
As the year-end approaches, the Mayor called for collective vigilance to keep the region secure and orderly. He specifically emphasized that the monitoring of fireworks usage remains essential to ensuring public safety during the upcoming celebrations.
He added, it is crucial to heighten vigilance against the potential for increased rainfall, which could trigger floods, landslides, fallen trees, and other extreme weather conditions that threaten public safety and health.
"I urge all ranks to be better prepared and stay alert. Activate the Jaga Jakarta Command Posts, mobilize personnel and infrastructure, promptly report and coordinate every incident, and provide immediate assistance to those in need," he explained.
Highlighting a collaborative effort, Yos Enos Kusumo from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints noted that the six deep-well pumps were provided to bolster the city’s flood mitigation initiatives. The aid is expected to clear water pooling in neighborhoods and public spaces.
"Our aim is to continue our active partnership with the South Jakarta Government in managing flood risks. It is our hope that these tools will serve the community effectively," he remarked during the handover on Monday.
