Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung on Monday (12/29) oversaw the results of road work in Karet Tengsin, Central Jakarta. The 400-meter-long road is now smooth and ready for public use after years of neglect.

This is why it was never maintained before

Pramono attributed the long delay to underground utility piping and overlapping jurisdictions between city agencies.

"This is why it was never maintained before, but those issues have now been addressed," he expressed.

In response, the Central Jakarta Mayor reported the road's condition to the governor to ensure immediate construction. Pramono lauded the rapid performance of his ranks for completing the road project in a very short time.

He believes the newly built road will bring significant benefits to the community, as it serves as a vital link to a major thoroughfare.

“Moreover, there are two schools here—a state elementary and a junior high school. I am certain this will greatly benefit the local community,” he stated.

Jakarta Bina Marga Agency Head, Heru Suwondo, added that the road construction was done entirely by the agency’s internal workforce. He emphasized that no external vendors were involved in the project.

“It was handled by our own personnel, Mr. Governor. Our task force—the Pasukan Kuning ‘Yellow Squad’—performed the work using materials from our own inventory. No third-party contractors were commissioned for this project,” he explained.

This road project underscores the administration's commitment to providing residents with reliable and secure access. By transforming the area with a new asphalt surface, the government aims to improve the neighborhood's livability and catalyze local socio-economic growth.

Formerly a vacant lot under the jurisdiction of the Jakarta Parks and City Forest Agency, the land has historically served as a vital artery for the community. The official construction now formalizes and secures this essential route for everyday public use.

Previously, the road consisted of bare soil that became muddy during rainfall and was severely damaged, thereby hindering public mobility. The construction and asphalting project commenced in November 2025 and reached completion in December 2025.
