As the year-end holiday season kicks off, many are heading out for vacations or making the trip back to their hometowns.

Between December 18 and 25, Tanjung Priok Terminal in North Jakarta recorded 4,637 passenger departures across 611 intercity buses.

Tanjung Priok Bus Terminal Head, Sandi Zamri said, intercity bus passenger numbers have risen during the year-end break, yet terminal operations stay smooth and orderly.

"Statistics show that 4,637 travelers departed via 611 buses over the last week," he explained, Friday (12/26).

Officials confirmed on Friday that the terminal remains 'safe and smooth' despite the increased volume.

Authorities have set up a collaborative security post involving North Jakarta Metro Police and the city administration to safeguard the year-end travel rush.

"The post, which remains on standby through January 5, 2026, ensures a secure environment for all commuters," he continued.

To ensure maximum safety, every intercity bus has been verified roadworthy through rigorous 'ramp checks.' To complement these vehicle safety measures, bus crews—including drivers and conductors—have undergone mandatory medical check-ups and drug screenings.

"Our priority is to ensure that every bus hitting the road is fully roadworthy. We're committed to safeguarding the security and comfort of all travelers during the holiday rush,” he added.

He furthered the majority of passengers are bound for destinations in Central and East Java, such as Pekalongan, Tegal, Banjarnegara, Pemalang, Malang, and Madura. Meanwhile, others are heading to West Java, including Bandung and Tasikmalaya.

Arrival traffic at Tanjung Priok Terminal remains busy, with 2,384 passengers logged arriving on 692 intercity buses over the same period.

Officials have encouraged travelers to stay alert and follow protocols.

"We urge everyone to watch their belongings and follow the rules. We're working to ensure a smooth and safe return flow for this year’s holiday season," he concluded.

Meanwhile, a passenger from Koja Sub-district bound for Gresik, Farah (27), said she is taking advantage of the year-end break to return to her hometown. She took leave from work specifically to celebrate the New Year with her family.

"I usually prefer the train, but it was fully booked. Thankfully, the terminal is quite orderly and not too packed this year. I'm looking forward to a safe and smooth celebration in my hometown," she admitted.
