Public Infrastructure and Facilities Handling (PPSU) personnel from Lubang Buaya Urban Village, Cipayung Sub-district, East Jakarta, took part in beautifying the area beneath the Bekasi–Cawang–Kampung Melayu (Becakayu) Toll Road on Jalan Laksamana Malahayati by painting murals with the theme "Jakarta: A Global and Cultured City".

"Seven are finished, and the rest are underway,"

Seven out of 12 pillars have been decorated with murals, while the rest are still in progress.

Lubang Buaya Urban Village Head Latiful Syamsi said the theme was chosen to mark Jakarta's 500th anniversary and reflect its vision of becoming a global city that still embraces cultural values, with the murals showcasing iconic Jakarta imagery in a modern style.

"We decorated the Becakayu Toll pillars with attractive murals. Seven are finished, and the rest are underway," he said on Friday (12/19).

The murals display a range of Jakarta-themed visuals, including Transjakarta buses, oplet, Monas with portraits of Governor Pramono Anung and Vice Governor Rano Karno, the Kemayoran Tiger alongside "Persija Jakarta" and "Jakmania" lettering, green spaces, and other elements symbolizing the city's identity.

"The project involved 15 orange troop (PPSU) personnel with artistic skills, and all murals are expected to be completed by December 25 at the latest," he explained.

He added that PPSU personnel are also landscaping the area under the toll road, which is planned to be transformed into a beautiful garden with ornamental plants and vegetables.

"Hopefully this effort can enhance both the aesthetics and practical use of the public space," he emphasized.

For your information, this mural project is part of a competition for the Jakarta Governor's Cup. In East Jakarta, 1,326 pillars under the Becakayu and Inner-City Toll Roads are being decorated with murals.
