The Jakarta Provincial Government has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a blue economy-based development approach, focusing on the sustainable and eco-friendly marine and fishery sectors.

"...the Jakarta Government will coordinate with the central government,"

This was conveyed by Jakarta Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture (KPKP) Agency Head Hasudungan Sidabalok, following a field inspection with his subordinates in October 2025 regarding development activities on Pari Island that recently went viral on social media.

He emphasized that the city government is focusing on protecting coastal ecosystems such as mangroves, coral reefs, and seagrass beds.

"Regarding the development around Pari Island that is suspected of causing damage to coastal and marine ecosystems, the Jakarta Government will coordinate with the central government, particularly the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), as the authority responsible for issuing marine spatial use permits," said Hasudungan on Thursday (12/18).

He noted that the coordination seeks to support rehabilitation efforts to restore affected coastal and marine ecosystems to their original condition.

Moreover, the Jakarta Provincial Government will ensure appropriate compensation is provided to affected communities, considering that the waters around Pari Island fall within Jakarta region.

As for the land status of Pari Island, Hasudungan stated that land ownership disputes remain unresolved to this day.

"This issue is still ongoing and remains unsettled," he shared.
