West Jakarta Environment (LH) Sub-agency is promoting a waste sorting program called "Grebek Pilah Sampah" at Pesakih Public Housing in Duri Kosambi Urban Village, Cengkareng Sub-district.

"...about the importance of proper waste management, including waste sorting,"

West Jakarta LH Sub-agency Head Achmad Hariadi stated that the activity is a follow-up to Jakarta Governor Regulation No. 77/2020 on Waste Management within the Neighborhood Association (RW) Scope.

"This activity also aligns with the directive from Jakarta Environment Agency Head to raise awareness and concern among residents about the importance of proper waste management, including waste sorting," he said on Wednesday (12/17).

Hariadi explained that the Grebek Pilah Sampah program is held regularly from Monday to Wednesday. In its implementation, West Jakarta LH Sub-agency collaborates with Pesakih Public Housing Management Unit (UPRS) V, Duri Kosambi Urban Village Head, Pesakih Public Housing Community, and local neighborhood and community units (RT and RW).

"The program is conducted in two towers, eight public housing blocks, and the main routes to UPRS V Pesakih," he mentioned.

The program also involves pollution control measures, such as applying bioactivator liquid at Pesakih Public Housing waste disposal site (TPS), which helps decomposer bacteria neutralize odors and eliminate harmful pathogens.

"By the third day, the waste managed through the Grebek Pilah Sampah program at Pesakih Public Housing reached 400 kilograms of organic kitchen waste, 500 kilograms of valuable inorganic waste, and 330 kilograms of plastic waste,” he revealed.

He hopes all related parties continue to work in synergy, especially the waste cart operators and the waste collection team from the West Jakarta LH Sub-agency, to prevent waste buildup and keep the TPS clean, green, and odor-free.

"The waste bank, which serves as a sorting facility for residents' waste, must also remain actively involved by visiting residents' homes along with cleaning officers. If done simultaneously and comprehensively, the waste problem in public housing can be properly handled," he asserted.

Meanwhile, Head of Pesakih Public Housing Management Unit V, Muhammad Ali, appreciated West Jakarta Sudin LH for their cooperation in handling waste at Pesakih Public Housing.

Ali urged residents to begin sorting their household waste by separating it into organic and non-organic categories.

"Hopefully, this activity will become a long-term solution to address residents’ complaints about waste accumulation," he noted.
