Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung officially opened the Jakarta Panen Buku Festival 2025 (Jakarta Book Harvest Festival) at the Emiria Soenassa and Oesman Effendi Galleries, Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM), Central Jakarta, Tuesday (12/16).
This event is an extraordinary
Pramono commended the event organized by the Jakarta Library and Archives Agency (Dispusip) as a stride toward establishing Jakarta as a premier city of literacy.
"This event is an extraordinary, groundbreaking initiative to transform Jakarta into a city of literacy," he stated.
He also paid special tribute to authors, particularly young writers who boldly voice their perspectives to the public through their works. One such example is a student named Naila, whose work addresses environmental issues and illegal logging.
"Hopefully, this event serves as an inspiration for us all," he remarked.
He further announced that operational hours for libraries and museums have now been extended to support public engagement in fostering literacy.
Meanwhile, Jakarta Library and Archives Agency Head, Nasruddin Djoko Surjono, reported that the Jakarta Panen Buku Festival 2025 is a strategic literacy movement designed to groom a generation in Jakarta that is thoughtful, rational, and creative.
"Beyond serving as an exhibition, this is also a space for the convergence of ideas, an appreciation of the learning process, and a celebration of Jakarta's future driven by brilliant children who write, think critically, and boldly showcase their ideas," he explained.
To realize the vision of positioning Jakarta among the top 20 global cities, one of the essential indicators to be met is the quality of human resources and literacy rates.
Notably, the Jakarta Panen Buku 2025 initiative holds the vision of building the nation's future by strengthening the culture of reading and writing among the younger generation.
The program is organized by the Jakarta Library and Archives Agency, in collaboration with the Jakarta Education Agency, Ministry of Religious Office, Generasi Cerdas Indonesia, and so forth.
The program involves thousands of student library patrons (pemustaka) from across Jakarta, covering elementary (SD/MI), junior high (SMP/MTs), senior high (SMA/MA), and vocational (SMK/MAK) levels. Participants are actively involved as young authors with the primary challenge of completing one full manuscript rather than an anthology, embodying the spirit of 'one student patron, one book.'
The resulting works encompass various fiction and non-fiction genres, including novels, short story collections, and picture books.
The pinnacle of the Jakarta Panen Buku 2025 activities is being held at the Festival from December 16 to 17, 2025, at the Emiria Soenassa and Oesman Effendi Galleries, Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta.
This festival showcases a total of 5,405 written works by student patrons, consisting of 1,849 works from the Jakarta Panen Buku 2025 activity and 3,556 books authored by student patrons from school libraries over the past three years.
Jakarta Panen Buku 2025 is expected to elevate reading passion through writing activities. By writing, student patrons are expected to grow into critical readers, a reasoning generation, and inventive residents.
