Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung reaffirmed his commitment to follow up on the outcomes of Betawi Special Congress 2025 by recognizing the Betawi Traditional Institution as a strategic partner of the city.

"...Betawi traditional institutions and communities to be partners of the Jakarta Government,"

He made this statement while receiving the congress outcomes at MH Thamrin Museum in Senen, Central Jakarta, on Monday (12/15).

"I consider the Betawi traditional institutions and communities to be partners of the Jakarta Government. And we will realize this soon," Pramono emphasized.

As stipulated in Law (UU) No. 2/2024, Jakarta is undergoing a transformation into the national economic hub and a global city. Therefore, development must not only focus on economic growth but also be deeply rooted in the identity and local Betawi culture.

Pramono stressed the city's ongoing commitment to preserving and promoting Betawi cultures, reflected in the presence of Betawi cultural elements at official events and the upcoming installation of major Betawi symbols across Jakarta starting next year.

"Even though the traditional council hasn't been formally established yet, we've already removed the ambiguity. At City Hall events, traditional Betawi attire like ujung serong is worn for every inauguration, which I've ensured takes place every Wednesday, so people can also see officials wearing kebaya encim, another traditional Betawi attire," he shared.

At the end of his remarks, Pramono called on residents, including Betawi community, to help foster a peaceful and harmonious life in Jakarta.

Betawi Community Trustees Council, Marullah Matali, explained that the Betawi Special Congress was held as a direct follow-up to Governor Pramono's earlier directives. Attended by representatives from over 120 Betawi-related organizations, the congress reached a consensus in appointing Fauzi Bowo as Chair of the Betawi Traditional Council.

"This means that any guidance or directive, as long as it's within the proper legal and religious framework, will be wholeheartedly supported by the Betawi people," he asserted.

Marullah also ensured the community's support for the leadership of Governor Pramono Anung and Vice Governor Rano Karno in advancing Jakarta as a global city.

Meanwhile, Fauzi Bowo, Chair of the Betawi Traditional Council, urged Governor Pramono to formally ratify the congress' decisions. He hopes that the Betawi traditional institution will be positioned as an equal partner to the Jakarta Government.

"Honorable Governor, we only ask for one thing: please ratify the outcomes of this congress, so that the Betawi traditional institution can stand as a true partner to the Jakarta Provincial Government, working side by side to manage our Betawi homeland," he said.
