Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung expressed his deep sorrow and concern regarding the fire that engulfed Kramat Jati Central Market on Jalan Raya Bogor, Kampung Tengah Urban Village, Kramat Jati, East Jakarta.

We convey our full solidarity and commitment

The incident occurred on Monday morning (14/15) at around 7:24 AM.

The fire, suspected to have originated from the papaya stall section constructed of flammable semi-permanent materials, caused panic among traders and local residents. Two explosions were also heard during the incident.

No casualties have been reported so far. However, Pramono has instructed his team to prioritize the safety of all affected parties.

"He has also instructed all Jakarta government ranks to immediately coordinate emergency response efforts," said Governor Special Staff for Social Communication, Chico Hakim, in a received press statement.

At the scene, 16 fire trucks and 80 firefighters from the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat) have been deployed to the scene to put out the blazing fire. He also involves the police to manage traffic and evacuation, as well as medical personnel to treat minor injuries.

Firefighting operations are prioritizing containment strategies to prevent the fire from spreading to other areas of the market, considering this area is a vital food distribution hub for the people of Jakarta.

To support recovery, the Jakarta government will immediately send an investigation team to determine the cause of the incident.

"We will immediately make a joint investigation team with related agencies to investigate the exact cause of the fire and prevent similar incidents in the future," he explained.

Further, the government will prepare temporary assistance, such as the relocation of affected traders and the distribution of emergency logistics, which will be coordinated with PD Pasar Jaya and the local urban village administration.

"To all affected traders, residents, and families, we convey our full solidarity and commitment to restoring market activities as soon as possible," he explained.

He also urged the public to remain calm, obey officers' instructions, and avoid the fire site for mutual safety.

"Further information will be provided periodically through official Jakarta government channels. Emergency contact: Call 112 or the Gulkarmat Command Center at (021) 550 1222 for the latest updates," he concluded.
