The construction of three tidal floodgates on Sabira Island, RW 03, Harapan Island Urban Village, North Seribu Islands Sub-district, finally completed.
Thank you, this is very helpful for us
Seribu Islands Water Resources Sub-agency (SDA) Head, Mustajab, stated the floodgates are built to follow up on the Sabira Island residents' request, who are frequently affected by seawater overflow due to gaps in the seawall during high tides.
"Each gate was built on the west side of Sabira Island (RT 02/03), the southwest side (RT 01/03), and the northwest side (RT 03/03)," he expressed, Monday (12/15).
He explained that each gate measures 1.5 by 1.2 meters. The construction was executed by a third-party contractor over 45 days, running from October to early December 2025.
"Hope it can provide long-term protection for Sabira Island, as well as improve the comfort and safety of residents against the impact of high tides," he explained.
Aside that, those gates also facilitate water circulation in the area behind the seawall. This is crucial for maintaining the mangrove ecosystem planted as the island's green belt.
"By so, water circulation behind the seawall is maintained. Thus, the mangrove area can thrive and function as the island's natural protector," he explained.
This work received appreciation from the resident from RW 03, Harapan Island Urban Village, Hamdani.
"Thank you, this is very helpful for us, especially during high tides, as it prevents seawater intrusion into the neighborhood," he stated.
