The Jakarta government and PAM JAYA officially kicked off the PAM JAYA JEKATE Running Series 2025 at Epiwalk, in the Rasuna Said area of South Jakarta, this Sunday (12/14).
Attended by over 4,500 participants
This event serves as the starting point for a series of national-scale runs aimed at encouraging healthy living, optimizing public space usage, and educating the public on the importance of sustainable clean water management.
Under the theme ‘Explore the City, Own Your Flow,’ the JEKATE Running Series 2025 presents a modern and inclusive running experience. Runners are invited to traverse Jakarta through unique routes that are full of character and stories.
In this debut event, around 4,500 participants joined the 5K and 10K categories, cementing its status as one of the most enthusiastic running events at the close of the year.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the JEKATE Running Series also serves as a prelude to an expansion of events in 2026, which will be held across all five administrative cities of Jakarta.
This initiative aligns with the Jakarta government’s vision to demonstrate that public sports spaces are not solely concentrated in Sudirman, but are evenly distributed across various parts of the city. He noted that the race categories would feature 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer distances.
"Today, we are kicking off a new running event in Jakarta initiated by Perumda PAM JAYA, called the JEKATE Running Series. Later, it will be contested in five cities; naturally, the overall winners will be those who earn medals in all five events, like this one," he explained.
He explained that the JEKATE Running Series demonstrates that Jakarta is very open to all parties wishing to organize running events and similar activities.
"Therefore, I encourage this. This is the first series, attended by over 4,500 participants, and Alhamdulillah (thank God), it went well. I personally participated in the 5K and finished in 45 minutes," he added.
Regarding the schedule for the events across Jakarta's five administrative cities, Pramono mentioned that the details would be provided by PAM JAYA officials.
"But essentially, the overall champion will be the one who participates in all five and earns the medals. Whether it is the 5K or the 10K category, this ensures fairness," he stated.
He added that running events have a tangible impact on sport tourism and Jakarta's economy.
"The most concrete example is the Jakarta International Marathon; we have calculated and measured it. At that time, it contributed approximately Rp 85 billion from MSMEs, the hospitality sector, and so on," he revealed.
PAM JAYA President Director, Arief Nasrudin stated that this kick-off serves as a vital platform to invite the public to understand the connection between health, clean water quality, and environmental sustainability.
Through mass sports events like this, it is hoped that education regarding clean water can be delivered in a way that is relevant and easily accepted.
He added that the participation of thousands of runners today proves that education on the importance of clean water can be communicated through relevant and enjoyable activities.
"PAM JAYA wishes to remind everyone that health, water quality, and the environment are an inseparable unity. Through the JEKATE Running Series, we invite the community to maintain a healthy lifestyle while also safeguarding the sustainability of water sources, which are a basic need for us all," he emphasized.
