The Jakarta government ensures that the community's food needs are in a safe condition ahead of the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 holidays.
Public does not need to panic
Economics and Finance Assistant, Suharini Eliawati asserted, Jakarta's strategic food reserves are confirmed to be sufficient through January 2026, due to intensive monitoring and strengthened inter-agency coordination.
With 98 percent of Jakarta's food supply coming from external sources, the Jakarta government has made a mechanism built on two key pillars. The first pillar comprises food BUMDs like Dharma Jaya, Food Station, and Pasar Jaya, acting as distributors and suppliers
The second pillar comprises technical departments like the Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security Agency (KPKP) and the Jakarta Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises Agency (PPKUKM), working together under the Food Task Force.
"Through routine meetings every Thursday, stock conditions and food distribution are monitored regularly," she expressed, Friday (12/12).
She conveyed that technical agencies have carefully assessed all strategic food needs, including rice, meat, and other essentials, which are being supplied by BUMDs. Monitoring confirms that stocks are safe for the upcoming Christmas and New Year.
"The potential for price increases is always under observation, as is the rise in food needs, because preventive measures are continuously being implemented," she continued.
She went on to say that the Jakarta government has implemented several concrete measures to prevent panic buying, including strengthening inter-regional cooperation, holding the Cheap Food Movement daily, and introducing subsidized food programs for certain communities.
With a price by Rp126,000, beneficiaries can obtain a food package containing rice, beef, chicken, eggs, mackerel, and milk.
This program is dedicated to KJP holders, residents of flats, Jakarta Elderly Card (KLJ) holders, Jakarta Disability Card (KPDJ) holders, Jakarta Worker Card (KPJ), Jakarta Child Card (KAJ), and others.
With one million beneficiaries, the government hopes this assistance can maintain the stability of consumption and the purchasing power of the community.
"Jakarta is safe until January 2026 and the public does not need to panic in facing the Christmas and New Year holiday season," she closed.
