Jakarta Health Agency, together with Central and Jakarta TP PKK and collaborative partners, held a Health Service at RSKD Duren Sawit, East Jakarta.

"Alhamdulillah, the number of cataract patients treated reached 110,"

In commemoration of Mother's Day, the event provided free cataract surgeries for 110 residents, along with free health check-ups and the distribution of eyeglasses.

Central TP PKK Chairwoman, Tri Tito Karnavian, said the activity is a continuation of a similar program held in 2024.

"We thank everyone who has worked hard to prepare this event. The preparations were certainly not easy and have been ongoing for several months," she conveyed, Wednesday (12/10).

Tri hopes that similar activities will continue to be held, not only in Jakarta, but also in other regions. Moreover, the cost of independent cataract surgery is quite high.

"Originally, we set a quota for 100. Alhamdulillah, the number of cataract patients treated reached 110," she shared.

Jakarta TP PKK Chairwoman Hani Pramono Anung said it was an honor to host this year's Health Service event, noting that Mother's Day carries a deeper meaning beyond a symbolic celebration.

"Vision is the window to the world. Without vision, daily activities become difficult. Therefore, vision impairment is not only a medical issue but also related to quality of life," she explained.

According to her, some Jakarta residents still have limited access to cataract surgery.

"The Jakarta Provincial Government, together with the Central PKK and Jakarta PKK, organizes this Health Service as a form of support for the community," she noted.

Deputy Head of the Jakarta Health Agency, Dwi Octavia, informed that in addition to cataract surgery for 110 patients, 3,400 free eyeglasses were distributed, including 1,700 for students and 1,700 for residents aged 40 and above.

"We also held simultaneous free health check-ups across all cities and regencies in Jakarta," she added.

Meanwhile, Sony Atmo Wiranto (54), a resident of RT 07/03, Duri Kepa Urban Village, Kebon Jeruk Sub-district, West Jakarta, expressed his happiness that his cataract condition could be treated with surgery today at no cost.

"If done independently, the cost is quite high. I am very helped by this free cataract surgery. Thank you very much," he said.
