Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung ensured the preparedness of Jakarta Provincial Government in facing tidal flood in northern coast of Jakarta. It was stated by Pramono during his visit to review coastal protection embankment condition in Muara Baru, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, Monday (12/7).
we've been anticipating this since the beginning
This visit was conducted after North Jakarta faced high tidal flooding triggered by the Supermoon phenomenon. Pramono emphasized that mitigating this tidal flooding is a top priority for the Jakarta Provincial Government.
"In fact, we've been anticipating this since the beginning of my 10-month administration. This has been a priority. Without this anticipation, the flooding would have been much higher," he said.
Pramono added that the tidal flood anticipation efforts are also run in Muara Angke, Muara Baru, Sunda Kelapa, Green Bay Pluit, RE Martadinata, Ancol, and Cilincing-Marunda Pulo.
The construction and maintenance of the embankment on the north coast of Jakarta involves many parties, including the Ministry of Public Works, Pelindo, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, and also the Jakarta Provincial Government.
Pramono emphasized that the Jakarta Provincial Government, through the Water Resources Agency, is primarily responsible for the construction and maintenance of coastal protection embankments by handling flooding, including providing water pumps.
"Jakarta government must be present for that," he emphasized.
Pramono also emphasized the importance of strengthening synergy with various parties involved in the construction and maintenance of coastal protection walls. This coordination with various parties will be carried out immediately.
Moreover, the Governor also emphasized the importance of continuing coastal wall construction as part of the long-term National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD) program. In the 2025 fiscal year, the work will continue on the 1.2-km Asahimas Segment, the 0.8-km West Ancol-Seafront Segment, and the 1.1-km Muara Angke mitigation embankment.
"Hopefully, of the 28 km, we've already completed 11 or so kilometers, leaving us with 16 or so kilometers short. Hopefully, this year, in 2026, the most important project will be at Mutiara Beach, approximately 430 meters on the east side and 100 meters on the west side," he continued.
Meanwhile, handling at Muara Baru, especially in the area owned by Pelindo, will be carried out in stages, including strengthening the existing embankment along approximately 1 km and building a protective barrier for the existing embankment along approximately 200 meters.
Meanwhile, for the Ancol area, handling will be carried out by Ancol and in the RE Martadinata segment, the work will be carried out by the Ministry of Public Works in the 2025-2027 budget year.
Head of Jakarta Water Resources Agency, Ika Agustin Ningrum, explained efforts to strengthen the leaking coastal protection embankment are carried out by grouting using the shotcrete method.
"It will be excavated three meters deep, then cast and filled with K500 ready-mix concrete for the coastal protection embankment. It is currently 400 meters downstream of Nizam Zachman and will continue for another one kilometer," she explained.
If a leak occurs, she continued, emergency effort will be taken first before the structure is reinforced. Ika added that the Water Resources Sub-agency routinely checks the condition of the dam and the pumping equipment.
