Jakarta needs to provide equitable and easily accessible public spaces
The Kick-Off of the PAM JAYA JEKATE Running Series 2025 to be held at Epiwalk, Rasuna Said, South Jakarta. It is projected to be attended by around 4,100 participants for the 5K and 10K categories on December 14.
Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung said his party initiated the JEKATE Running Series to revive public spaces as safe, comfortable and productive places for activities for the entire community.
"As a global city, Jakarta needs to provide equitable and easily accessible public spaces for physical activity for its residents. The JEKATE Running Series emphasizes that exercise spaces are not solely centered on Sudirman, but are spread throughout the city," he said.
The Jakarta Provincial Government wants to encourage a culture of healthy living that is evenly distributed and provide opportunities for Jakarta residents to continue moving, being active and healthy through the JEKATE Running Series event.
The implementation of the JEKATE Running Series in 2026 will be developed into a larger running series as part of a collective sports movement across all administrative cities to the Seribu Islands.
"I hope this running activity will become a platform that encourages community participation in building a healthy lifestyle culture, while also strengthening the function of public spaces as a platform for positive social interaction," he added.
Pramono also projected that Jakarta to be able to host a marathon event with 50,000 participants in 2027 after previously targeting 40,000 participants in 2024 and 2026.
"I also requested that the JEKATE Running Series, led by PAM Jaya, be different. The event, which carries the theme "Explore the City on Your Flow," must be implemented in five cities and one district," he appealed.
Meanwhile, Director of PAM Jaya, Arief Nasrudin, explained his side initiated the JEKATE Running Series as part of a major campaign to increase public awareness of clean water services and the target of 100 percent service by 2029.
"This is a huge undertaking. Never before has there been an increase of 1,000,000 connections in five years. But this series must be carried out. Through the running event, we saw the extraordinary enthusiasm of the community," he explained.
According to him, many residents are still reluctant to accept free connections, so education and brand awareness will be increased.
"There are five series in the JKT Running Series and each medal has its own uniqueness," he stated.
