Jakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno officially opened the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Enhancing Accessibility for the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) Area at Annex Room, Jatibaru Technical Building, Jalan Taman Jatibaru, Cideng, Gambir, Central Jakarta.

"...actually, JIS is part of a larger area, not just the stadium,"

On this occasion, Rano requested that the discussion produce a conceptual framework for developing JIS as an integrated area.

"I want to emphasize this activity a bit. Indeed, we want to discuss about infrastructure at JIS, but actually, JIS is part of a larger area, not just the stadium," he stressed, on Thursday (11/27).

Rano continued that if development does not refer to JIS as an integrated area, the arrangement will not be complete. As a result, discussions on development would repeatedly stall, waiting for stagnation to occur first.

According to him, if the concept focuses on area planning, development will be more directed. Although technically, the implementation stages can be divided into several phases.

JIS is now recognized for its great potential, with dozens of event promoters showing interest in holding concerts at the stadium.

Since JIS offers a more efficient layout for spectators and better sound system infrastructure, Rano expects the development strategy to address more than just immediate needs like parking and access, but also to focus on integrated, long-term area development.

The FGD discussion is also expected to provide insights that JIS is not just a stadium but can be optimized as a hub for sports, culture, and tourism activities. He gave the example of Cincin Lake within the JIS area, which could be developed with various supporting facilities.

Rano added that JIS development should also be aimed at benefiting the wider community. He also said that the development must be accompanied by optimal accessibility, with strengthening transportation access to JIS as a priority.

The development is also expected to prioritize accessibility for everyone, including persons with disabilities and the elderly. Rano hopes the proposed JIS area initiative will align with Jakarta's 2025–2029 Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD).

Rano explained that under the RPJMD, the Jakarta Provincial Government is committed to advancing an integrated and sustainable transportation system, improving road infrastructure and connectivity, and creating urban spaces that support sports, cultural, and tourism activities. These efforts aim to build an inclusive city that is friendly to all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and persons with disabilities.

"We hope this FGD strengthens our shared commitment with stakeholders to achieve RPJMD targets while positioning Jakarta as a hub for international sports events," he stated.

Jakarta Transportation Agency Deputy Head Ujang Hermawan informed that the FGD was attended by 100 participants and featured several expert speakers. The event aimed to evaluate the public transportation system around JIS, including private vehicles, TransJakarta buses, LRT, and other transport modes.

"This forum is also a key moment to comprehensively discuss solutions to improve accessibility in the area," he said.
