East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin led the assembly and declaration of the Community Movement to Own Fire Extinguishers (GEMPAR) at Cakung Sub-district Office yard.
"Personal APAR ownership is crucial for early mitigation in case of fire,"
The event featured a fire emergency simulation by Cakung Sub-district Fire Volunteer (Redkar) Team, followed by a banner signing as a commitment to fire prevention and response through the GEMPAR program.
In his remarks, Munjirin encouraged civil servants (ASN) and residents to own a fire extinguisher (APAR), emphasizing that ideally, every household should have one as an early fire prevention measure. Cakung is the third sub-district in East Jakarta to host a GEMPAR assembly.
"I hope other sub-districts will follow suit to support the Governor's Instruction on household APAR ownership," he said on Monday (11/24).
Munjirin mentioned that many residents still lack knowledge about the functions of APAR and how to use them. This initiative aims to encourage the community to better understand the importance of owning and properly using fire extinguishers.
He also hoped APAR ownership would extend beyond residences to businesses, mosques, prayer rooms, and other places of worship.
He stressed that if only one APAR is available in an RT (neighborhood unit), it would be insufficient during emergencies due to the large number of homes.
"Personal APAR ownership is crucial for early mitigation in case of fire," he asserted.
Munjirin urged the Jakarta Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-agency to continue conducting fire safety outreach and providing APAR training, especially for those unfamiliar with its use.
"We want mitigation and fire risk reduction efforts in residential areas to be more effective," he stated.
Meanwhile, Cakung Sub-district Head Rohmad added that the GEMPAR assembly was attended by representatives from sub-district and urban village offices, RT/RW leaders, LMK, FKDM, PKK cadres, Dasawisma, Karang Taruna, and other related stakeholders.
"We thank all community members who have supported GEMPAR, as this initiative is a proactive step in preventing fire hazards in our neighborhoods," he conveyed.
