The North Jakarta City administration implements a new traffic rule today that limits the operational hours of trucks on Jalan Raya Cilincing, Kalibaru Urban Village, Cilincing Sub-district. It aims to improve the safety of residents who use that route every day.

This is for the safety and security of the residents

North Jakarta Mayor, Hendra Hidayat said, today, the authorities, along with cross-sector teams, directly reviewed the second day of the traffic restrictions. The rule was made based on residents' proposals, considering the narrow and busy conditions of Jalan Raya Cilincing.

"This is for the safety and security of the residents. This road is only about 15 to 16 meters wide, but it is used by large trailers as well as residents who drop off their children at school, go to work, or ride motorcycles. The risk is very high," he expressed, Wednesday (11/19).

He explained, the accidents that have occurred so far serve as a strong basis for the need for rule. They have also conducted socialization efforts with the community and companies in the surrounding area.

"Imagine, often our residents cross just a few centimeters from the truck's body. That is very dangerous. This regulation was made so that residents can carry out their activities peacefully. Hopefully, this can continue to run smoothly," he explained.

North Jakarta Transportation Sub-agency Head, Hendrico Tampubolon added, this policy is still in a one-month trial period. It would be continued with evaluation in order to determine, whether the restrictions need to be extended to other roads or not.

"This is the second day, and we had previously socialized it through the sub-district and urban village heads to the pool owners and trailer depot managers. The agreement is that trucks will pass during the scheduled hours," he explained.

He asserted, the government continues to maintain a balance between the safety of residents and business activities. Large vehicle restrictions, including trucks, trailers, and containers, are prohibited from passing through Jalan Raya Cilincing from 6 AM to 9 AM and from 4 PM to 9 PM. However, this regulation does not apply on Sundays.

Then, if a vehicle wants to enter or exit the pool, the driver must wait until the restriction period is over, and for vehicles with a tonnage of 5,501 kilograms or more heading to the Berikat Nusantara Zone (KBN), they are directed through an alternative route via Jalan Cakung-Cilincing Raya-Jalan Akses Marunda-Jalan Ujung Pandang.

"We set the rhythm of movement, not prohibit business. We are in the middle, ensuring the safety of residents while still helping business actors to keep moving," he added.

RW 07 Chairman, Kalibaru Urban Village, Caharudin expressed his gratitude to the North Jakarta City administration and its staff for realizing the residents' long-standing wish, as the road is often traversed by trucks.

"We strongly support this traffic regulation because there are many schoolchildren in the morning. Hopefully, this program can run smoothly forever, and our residents will also feel safer and more comfortable," he stated.
