Head of RW 03, Tugu Selatan, Sutarto appreciated the construction of the 5x5 square meter independent hydrant by North Jakarta and Seribu Islands Fire Handling and Rescue Sub-agency.
"We also feel proud, because this hydrant was built on land purchased by residents through mutual cooperation," he said, Friday (11/7).
He added that difficult access and densely populated buildings have made residents aware of the importance of fire prevention. In fact, Pertamina pipelines also pass through neighborhoods from RT 15 to 01.
Head of Tugu Selatan Urban Village, Yuyun Yuniarti explained the construction of this independent hydrant in RW 03 is the first and follows up on a request from residents. This area has 17 neighborhood units (RTs) covering 22 hectares, with a population of 9,500 and 1,671 buildings.
"Thank you to the residents who have provided and even purchased land for independent fire hydrants. We hope that with these hydrants, residents can quickly respond to fires," he hoped.
Meanwhile, Head of North Jakarta and Seribu Islands Sub-agency, Budi Haryono stated the progress of this hydrant construction reaches 20 percent. The work has been starting since the end of October and is targeted for completion in December.
"These hydrants are prioritized in densely populated and fire-prone areas, as well as in locations difficult to reach by fire trucks," he stated.
According to him, independent hydrants are not only operated when extinguishing fires, but can also be used for activities such as community service, to post-flood and inundation handling.
