Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung assured that the commissioning process at the Rorotan Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) facility, North Jakarta, will continue. However, he temporarily limited the waste processing capacity for alternative fuel to 1,000 tons per day.

We will go back to 1,000 for the production

He made this decision, following a number of issues that arose when the processing capacity was increased to 2,000-2,500 tons.

"In the meeting, I have already decided that we will go back to 1,000 for the production. Because when it's 1,000, the residents there are also invited to see the chimney and so on; the chimney is clean, well-organized, and the waste is orderly," he explained, at Jakarta City Hall, Friday (11/7).

He expressed the main problem does not lie in the RDF facility itself, but in the transportation process and the condition of the waste.

According to him, the waste used for processing at Rorotan RDF should be new waste of about two to five days so as not to cause odors.

"Actually, when the RDF's waste capacity input is 1,000, there are no issues and it has been running for several days. The problem arose when it was increased to 2,000, and it even reached 2,500," he explained.

He also highlighted the leachate leaking from the used dump trucks. Hence, the Jakarta government would replace the old truck fleet with new ones.

He also requested that the procurement process be expedited for the new dump trucks.

"So, there are now 93 trucks for the 2024 fleet. I request that the procurement for 2025, which is coming soon, be accelerated so that only new trucks will be in service, and all the old ones will be reassigned elsewhere," he closed.
