The 2025 National Paralympic Student Week (PEPARPENAS) in Jakarta has officially begun. This year, features four sports: para badminton at Pulo Gadung Sports Hall, para table tennis at East Jakarta Sports Hall, para swimming at Aquatic Stadium, and para athletics at Student Sports Training Center (PPOP) in Ragunan.
"...a stepping stone for young athletes with disabilities to reach higher levels of achievement,"
Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency (Dispora) Head, Andri Yansyah, stated that PEPARPENAS is not just a competition, but also an opportunity for character development, where student athletes strive not only for medals but also to build a winning mentality, discipline, and integrity.
"This national event is expected to be a stepping stone for young athletes with disabilities to reach higher levels of achievement," he said while opening the para badminton matches at Pulo Gadung Sports Hall, Rawamangun, East Jakarta.
He emphasized that badminton is one of Indonesia's leading sports that has brought pride to the nation on the global stage. According to him, PEPARPENAS witnesses the emergence of rising talents who will become Indonesia's next badminton champions.
"The committee's preparation for badminton competition has been outstanding, with 78 para badminton athletes participating from various provinces across Indonesia," he added.
Andri explained that the facilities have been prepared to the fullest, with the hope that they will inspire and motivate the athletes to perform at their best and bring pride to their respective regions.
He pointed out that although Jakarta is targeting medals in this event, PEPARPENAS 2025 is also a crucial opportunity to evaluate which sports disciplines show great potential and deserve focused, ongoing development.
"We hope this event produces athletes who are ready to become the core strength of Indonesian badminton in the future," he expressed.
