Jakarta Council (DPRD) Commission D Chairperson Yuke Yurike has urged the Jakarta City Park and Forestry Agency (Distamhut) to tighten tree maintenance and inspection across the city.
"We're asking that parks also be developed in the city outskirt,"
She emphasized that regular tree inspection and maintenance must be carried out to prevent future incidents of falling trees that could cause fatalities.
"Inspections should be done routinely, including pruning, checking roots, and assessing trees' physical conditions," she mentioned on Wednesday (10/29).
Yuke also noted the importance of coordination with the Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), especially during extreme weather, such as heavy rain and strong winds.
"Large and aging trees on the roadside should be prioritized for inspection so they can be pruned, removed, or replaced with more suitable species," she added.
She also reaffirmed the importance of equitable development of green open spaces (RTH) across Jakarta, urging the city to extend park development beyond central areas to the outskirts, ensuring more evenly distributed benefits.
"We're asking that parks also be developed in the city outskirts, including small neighborhood parks that are accessible to local communities," she said.
According to her, the equitable park distribution is crucial as many densely populated areas in Jakarta still lack access to green spaces or adequate facilities.
"We ask that densely populated and suburban areas be made a priority in the future planning," she concluded.
