Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung, is committed to the Jakarta government to continuously improve the quality of services and upgrade Transjakarta bus transportation facilities.
The facilities are currently being repaired
It is done by adding more Transjakarta electric buses to reduce air pollution in Jakarta. Pramono stated this in response to the discussion about increasing Transjakarta fares.
"The facilities are currently being repaired. We will also operate 500 electric buses, previously only 200. Of course, this can reduce pollution," he expressed, at M Bloc Space in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, Tuesday (10/28).
Regarding the issue of fare hikes, the authorities have implemented free fares for 15 groups of people, including civil servants, army, police, students, people with disabilities, and elderly, applicable on all Transjakarta routes. However, the government cannot subsidize all residents of Greater Jakarta.
"Of course, the government can't support all the residents in the Greater Jakarta. We have already calculated for Transjakarta, especially for Transjabodetabek, thus the prices between Jakarta and the surrounding areas are not different," he explained.
He revealed that the current subsidy per Transjakarta ticket has reached more than Rp 9,000. Therefore, the government is considering adjusting the fares.
"It's impossible for us to keep holding this alone continuously. When the time comes, we will take action," he explained.
Nevertheless, he emphasized that Transjakarta fares are still cheaper than transportation in any other region, including Bogor, Bekasi, and Tangerang.
He cited that the Transjakarta fare from Bogor to Jakarta in the early morning before 6 AM is only Rp 2,000, with very good facilities.
"Therefore, when the time comes, we will announce about it at the appropriate moment," he closed.
