Suherni (48), resident of RW 05, Lagoa Urban Village, said this is the first time she has participated in the free cat sterilization program initiated by North Jakarta Food Security, Maritime and Agriculture Sub-agency.
"I have four cats, but only two of them have been sterilized. I took them to private clinic and paid Rp 200,000. This free cat sterilization gave me one package of cat food," she said, Tuesday (10/21).
She added that this program is good to handle cat population in Jakarta. Next, she will monitor the information on sub-agency's social media.
Meanwhile, Wahyu (41), resident of Warakas, admitted he brought three male cats today.
According to him, the service provided is also fast and very easy. He was given barcode after being registered.
"This service is incredibly helpful for those of us with lots of cats," he admitted.
Head of North Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency, Unang Rustanto explained this sterilization program is part of local government's effort to support animal welfare and ease the burden on the community.
"250 male cats were sterilized today. This program was enthusiastically supported by residents," he explained.
After sterilization, the pet is also vaccinated against rabies. This ensures its health is further protected and cat population control is optimized.
According to him, 1,200 out of 2,000 cats in North Jakarta have been sterilized up to September.
"Hopefully this activity will be able to control cat population and maintain Jakarta status as free rabies city," he hoped.
