MSMEs and Urban Farmers Trained to Process Agricultural Products

Jakarta Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture (KPKP) Agency held a Agricultural Product Processing Training Week for MSMEs and yellow pumpkin farmers at Klender Agriculutre Training Center, Jalan l Gusti Ngurah Rai, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta.

The training was attended by 80 participants from various groups, including youth, MSMes scaling up, urban farmers, PKK cadres, and RPTRA administrators. This activity is also part of the Jakarta Provincial Government's efforts to promote economic independence through urban farming sector.

Jakarta KPKP Agency's Agriculture Division Head, Mujiati, said the training aims to enhance the capacity and knowledge of the community, especially MSMEs and urban farmers, in processing agricultural products into value-added products.

"Through this training, participants are expected not only to understand cultivation aspects but also to develop creative, hygienic processed products with strong market competitiveness," she asserted, on Friday (10/17).

Participants were provided with processing equipment such as mixers and blenders to support their skills and productivity in processing agricultural products at the community level. The training lasted three days, with different themes and participant groups each day.

On October 14, 40 young MSME participants began their training with a technical session on chocolate and matcha processing, covering cocoa history, cultivation methods, bean processing, and product development. 

They also learned about tea types, Japanese-style powdered teas, and modern matcha trends, with hands-on demos and product tasting sessions.

On October 15, a technical session on cookie baking was held for 20 MSME participants, covering equipment and ingredient selection, processing techniques, and hands-on baking. Participants also received mixers and ingredients like margarine and icing sugar.

On October 16, 20 urban farmer groups, RPTRA, and PKK cadres participated in a session on yellow pumpkin processing, covering the pumpkin's characteristics, benefits, nutritional value, to product development. Participants also practiced making pumpkin-based noodles, cakes, cookies, and sticks.

"By providing processing equipment such as mixers and blenders, participants are expected to immediately apply the skills they've gained to grow their businesses. We hope this training becomes a concrete step toward transforming local agricultural products into innovative, marketable goods with higher value," she shared.
