Around 100 joint personnel carried out a "Grebek Sampah" (waste clean-up operation) on Jalan Krama Yudha, RT 03/05, Rawa Terate Urban Village, Cakung Sub-district, East Jakarta. Three trucks and one shovel loader were deployed in this operation.
"The volume of waste had reached around 30 tons,"
Rawa Terate Urban Village Secretary Daniel Wisnu Parulian said the personnel were from several agencies, including Environment (LH) Sub-agency, Bina Marga, Water Resources (SDA) Task Force, Satpol PP, PPSU, and Transportation Sub-agency.
“The garbage had piled up significantly and residents had complained, so today we carried out a full clean-up,” he said on Thursday (10/16).
According to him, the waste was not only from RW 05 but also from surrounding areas. The temporary disposal site is a central collection point before being transported to the Bantar Gebang Integrated Waste Treatment Facility (TPST) in Bekasi, West Java.
“Usually, waste is transported three times a week,” he mentioned.
Cakung Sub-district Environment Unit Head, Encep Suryana, added that to speed up the clean-up, two large trucks and one large compactor were deployed.
“The volume of waste had reached around 30 tons. We're ensuring all of it is cleared today so the odor doesn’t bother nearby residents,” he explained.
Meanwhile, RW 05 treasurer, Nurhasan, stated that residents had been complaining about the growing waste pile and unpleasant odor.
“Alhamdulillah, the Grebek Sampah operation was carried out today. We hope waste collection can be done routinely to prevent future buildup,” he asserted.
