Water channel dredging on Jalan Mangga Besar IX, RW 01, Tangki Urban Village, Taman Sari, Central Jakarta, is targeted for completion by the end of October.
"So far, around 165 meters have been completed,"
Taman Sari Sub-district Water Resources (SDA) Task Force Coordinator, Enri Pratama Aji, explained that 550-meter-long channel dredging work began on Monday (10/6).
"So far, around 165 meters have been completed, or about 30 percent of the total length. We aim to finish it by the end of this month," he stated on Tuesday (10/14).
He noted that the 60x60-centimeter-wide channel is being cleaned daily by 16 personnel.
"Based on our progress, we've found that the sediment thickness ranges between 15 and 30 centimeters," he informed.
Enri also mentioned that the use of concrete U-ditch covers on the water channel has made the work more time-consuming.
Fanny, a local resident of RW 01 Tangki Urban Village, expressed appreciation for the dredging efforts and hoped the work would be completed soon.
"By cleaning it, the water will flow more smoothly, so rain won't cause flooding," she said.
