The Jakarta Provincial Government, through Ragunan Zoo Management Unit (UPTMR), is officially launching the Night at the Ragunan Zoo tour this Saturday night (10/11).

"Now, people can enjoy the atmosphere of an urban forest at night,"

Night at the Ragunan Zoo program is held every Saturday night from 6 PM to 10 PM with regular admission fees of Rp4,000 for adults and Rp3,000 for children.

Through this program, visitors can enjoy a unique experience in enjoying Ragunan Zoo animals that are active at nights, such as small mammals, owls and reptiles. In addition to serving as an educational initiative, the activity is also expected to provide a healthy, safe, and comfortable recreational space.

Jakarta City Park and Forestry Agency Head, M. Fajar Sauri, stated that the program follows a directive from Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung to expand public access to wildlife education, especially for students and communities, while also offering families an alternative of nighttime entertainment.

He sees the extended operating hours as part of the city's effort to provide more inclusive public spaces.

"Now, people can enjoy the atmosphere of an urban forest at night while learning about animal behavior, particularly nocturnal species," he said, Saturday (10/11).

He added that the city government aims to transform Ragunan Zoo into not just a daytime attraction, but also an educational and recreational nighttime tourist destination for Jakarta residents.

Fajar explained that the Night at Ragunan Zoo trial will be evaluated regularly to assess facility readiness and public response. If successful, it may become a regular feature of Jakarta's night tourism agenda.

"If public enthusiasm is high and everything runs smoothly, we'll certainly look into expanding the program. Jakarta needs more public spaces that are vibrant, safe, and educational," he emphasized.

Meanwhile, Ragunan Zoo Management Unit (UPTMR) Head, Endah Rumiyati stated that the management has installed additional lighting in areas open at night to ensure visitor comfort.

A digital map called Map Night Ragunan is also available to help visitors navigate active routes. For those seeking a more immersive experience, guided night tours are offered with zookeepers who explain the behavior of nocturnal animals and hold feeding sessions at designated times.

In addition to observing animals, visitors can also enjoy light activities such as a 1.8-kilometer night workout along designated paths. According to Endah, this program is ideal for families, communities, or individuals looking to enjoy a more peaceful workout outside of regular zoo hours.

"All activities are designed to ensure the animals remain safe and undisturbed, while also keeping visitors comfortable. We conducted ecological assessments, lighting studies, and simulation visits before launching this trial. We want to ensure the featured animals feel at ease and are not stressed by visitor activity," she explained.

For ticketing, visitors can purchase admission directly at the Ragunan ticket counter using JakCard, an electronic card issued by Bank DKI. Those who do not have the card can buy and top it up on-site before entering the zoo. Ticket sales are available until 9 PM.

During the nighttime program, private vehicles are not allowed inside the zoo. Instead, the management provides shuttle buggy cars with a five-person capacity to transport visitors to animal viewing areas, charged at Rp250,000 per hour.

Jakarta Satpol PP Head, Satriadi Gunawan, stated that in addition to increasing the number of surveillance cameras (CCTV) at several points, Satpol PP personnel have also been deployed to guard and patrol the Ragunan area.

"We want to ensure that this activity runs safely, orderly, and enjoyably. Personnel will monitor the area using a humane and measured approach," he affirmed.

Several Satpol PP posts will be set up to anticipate potential security threats or inappropriate behavior. He emphasized that any actions violating public norms will not be tolerated.

"If anyone behaves inappropriately, we will take firm action. Ragunan is a public space for all residents, not a place to be misused," he asserted.
