The Jakarta Provincial Governemnt will repurpose the Gifted School building in Cawang, Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, into a Learning Activity Center (SKB) and a junior high school.
"I want all the facilities built by the Jakarta Government to be properly utilized,”
According to local reports, the facility constructed since 2019 has not been fully put to use.
“Why am I here?
I want all the facilities built by the Jakarta Government to be properly utilized,” said Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung during his visit to the Gifted School building in Cawang, Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, on Friday (10/3).Through this repurposing, the government aims to maximize the use of the existing asset. The decision was made after discussions with the local community.
As an SKB, the building will be used to support out-of-school children by providing them with a space to continue their education. Additionally, the community has requested that the building be converted into a Junior High School.
"Therefore I have asked Education Agency Head and Mayor to prepare this place for these two functions. One for SKB and the other for junior high school," he mentioned.
The junior high school building will be the first in the sub-district and is expected to be well received by local residents. For this reason, Pramono has asked Education Agency Head to prepare a budget for renovating the building.
This building has a capacity of 15 classes, each estimated to accommodate up to 36 students. Pramono is confident that this capacity will be sufficient for both functions.
"It would be a waste not to utilize it after such development. So, we will proceed with it shortly," he emphasized.
Originally, the building was planned as a Gifted School to accommodate talented children from underprivileged families, equipped with facilities such as a dormitory and swimming pool. However, the plan couldn't be realized and the building was temporarily used as a vocational school before eventually becoming vacant.
