Jakarta Deputy Governor, Rano Karno emphasized that the Jakarta Provincial Government remains committed to supporting efforts to fight cancer.
We are ready to collaborate with YKI Jakarta
"We are ready to collaborate with YKI Jakarta. YKI Jakarta has been a strategic partner of the Jakarta Provincial Government in the health sector," he said, on the opening of National Coordination Meeting of the Indonesian Cancer Foundation (YKI) at the Keraton Majapahit, Jakarta, Jalan Raya Mabes Hankam, Cipayung, East Jakarta, Friday (9/26).
Rano explained that Jakarta Provincial Government has been running health programs related to cancer, such as screening or early detection of cancer through a free health check program.
Then, education and socialization on various platforms about cancer awareness carried out by health service facilities, HPV vaccination programs that prevent cervical cancer for elementary school students, integrated cancer palliative services with the white troops, provision of genetic and therapy facilities at several cancer referral hospitals.
The quality and capacity of health services are also strengthened, including the provision of updated equipment for early detection and treatment of cancer in a number of regional hospitals.
"This is part of our commitment to expanding access to equitable, quality, and adequate health services, he added.
According to the Jakarta Health Agency's data, Rano explained there are around 400 thousand new cases of cancer in Indonesia every year with high mortality rate.
This is a reminder that cancer treatment requires a more serious, systematic and collaborative approach from upstream to downstream, from primary prevention to various services.
YKI's role is crucial as a provider of education, advocacy, and support services needed by the community, not only for those seeking access to cancer prevention information, but also for survivors struggling daily.
Meanwhile, Chairwoman of the Event Committee, Hetty Andika Perkasa, appreciated the support of Jakarta Provincial Government and the presence of Deputy Governor Rano Karno at the event. She explained that the event was attended by 165 participants across Indonesia.
"I hope that this National Coordination Meeting will be able to achieve a common goal, namely uniting the spirit of YKI's service in fighting cancer throughout the country," she admitted.
