Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung urged retail industry players and MICE sector (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) to continue innovating and collaborating to make Jakarta a competitive global city.

"...to keep innovating in creating memorable experiences,"

He delivered this statement at a Council of Asia Shopping Centers (CASC) - Conferences 2025 held at Fairmont Jakarta Hotel on Thursday (9/25). This forum was organized to strengthen collaboration among national and international retail players, including CASC members from various countries.

"I invite retail players, shopping centers, and MICE sector to keep innovating in creating memorable experiences, building lifestyle destinations, and driving local and local economy growth amid competition, including from digital commerce," he said.

Governor also highlighted the important role of retail industry, not only as the backbone of the economy, but also aas a space of interaction and the image of a city.

"Retail is not just about economic transactions, but also about building destinations that offer experiences, spaces for interaction, and a city's image," he added.

Moreover, Pramono noted Jakarta's significant role in the national economy. In the second quarter of this year, Jakarta contributed 16.61 percent to the national economy, with a positive growth of 5.18 percent year-on-year, surpassing the national growth rate of 5.12 percent.

The wholesale and retail trade sector was the main contributor, making up 18.14 percent of Jakarta's Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP). This sector plays a vital role in driving the economy, attracting investment, encouraging the creative industry, and strengthening the city’s competitiveness.

Throughout 2025, Jakarta has hosted various international-scale MICE events, including the Jakarta International Investment, Trade, Tourism and SMEs Expo (JITEX), Jakarta International Collaboration Expo (JICE), Festival Jakarta Great Sale, and Jakarta International Marathon.

Throughout the four-day event, JITEX 2025 recorded transactions exceeding Rp14.3 trillion, covering B2B, B2C, Affordable Market, and Domestic Product Usage (P3DN) segments.

Meanwhile, the Festival Jakarta Great Sale 2025 generated over Rp15.9 trillion in transactions over four weeks, with a 30 percent increase in visitors compared to the previous year. This figure surpassed last year's Rp14 trillion.

"This achievement shows the enormous potential of MICE and retail industries in positioning Jakarta as a competitive global city," he asserted.

According to him, both sectors complement each other in driving economic growth and reinforce Jakarta's image as a city that is "Nice for MICE".

On this occasion, Governor Pramono also appreciated the Indonesian Shopping Center Management Association (APPBI) for its significant role in supporting the growth of Indonesia's retail industry.

The Jakarta Provincial Government is committed to open collaboration, including by hosting more international events in the future.

"Enjoy the Council of Asian Shopping Centers Conference 2025. May this conference strengthen cross-border partnerships and bring broad benefits to the community and both regional and national economies," he emphasized.
