The repair of the Kali Betik River's retaining wall on Jalan Janur Asri, RW 12, Kelapa Gading Barat Urban Village, Kelapa Gading Sub-district, North Jakarta, which collapsed some time ago, is targeted to be completed in early October.
As the work proceeds smoothly, it will be completed on schedule
"This retaining wall is indeed fragile because it is old, making it prone to landslides. To strengthen the structure, we'll do repairs again," he expressed North Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency (SDA) Head, Ahmad Saipul, Friday (9/19).
He explained, eight personnel were deployed to repair a retaining wall measuring 52.8 meters long and three meters high, which has been ongoing since July 23.
"Repairs are done manually and supported with one heavy equipment unit for excavation. For the construction process, we use river stone materials, as well as dolken wood, followed by casting and plastering," he explained.
He added, the repair progress has reached 33 meters or 62 percent so far.
"As the work proceeds smoothly, it will be completed on schedule. Hopefully, this can help maintain the river flow to be safe and optimal, and prevent flooding," he added.
The work received appreciation from Kelapa Gading Sub-district Head, Anita Permatasari.
According to him, that section of the retaining wall often collapses and frequently obstructs the water flow. The fallen debris from the collapse is feared to trigger flooding in residents' settlements.
"Personnel's performance is quick and neat, and hopefully it can be completed soon. As a result, residents will feel safer and more comfortable, and the flow of water in Betik River will become smoother," he stated.
